This study represents my transition to Maya. In using 3d Studio MAX, I ran into some roadblocks. The interactive renderer was way too slow compared to Maya's IPR, which is quite fast. This is crucial to the way I light, using many light sources to accomplish specific goals. Here I use lights to cast the cool onto her lower legs, and especially the green on her foot, as well as the warmth of the spotlight behind her. I continued to ask myself "where's the life" refering primarily to color. For me, it ended up being in the little tatter of red protruding from her knee. The transition to Maya also made available the Artisan toolset, which allowed me to paint a texture map for the first time, as well as sculpt more detail (the folds of skin in the back) into the model.
