Through a spiraling path around groups of living trees, Vieux creates a vibrant field of energy. This energized spiraling motif is a distant symbol of Vieux's work. Interacting structure and energy. Vieux's sculptures emerge as complex compositional rhythms and create the awareness of a personal presence in a mysterious habitat. The spiraling motif is reflective of the eternal journey, both inward and outward, whose ultimate destination is the sacred knowledge of life itself. These tree sculptures are an aesthetic depiction of the temporarity of life and the eternal energy from which it springs." Materials are collected and combined in beautiful and unusual ways. The tapestry and industrial materials: spiraled around trunks and branches serve not only to enhance the individuality of what is wrapped, but to invoke a universal message as well--"the spiraling motif is reflective of an eternal journey, both inward and outward, whose ultimate destination is the sacred knowledge of life itself." |
