BOSTON CYBERARTS FESTIVAL

Over 30 arts organizations in the Boston area and across Massachusetts
are hosting visual and performing arts events, educational activities and
symposia for the BOSTON CYBERARTS FESTIVAL.

The Computer Museum, located on Boston's waterfront, will be the central
location for the Festival. In conjunction with the Festival, the Museum
will exhibit digital artworks throughout its galleries including a
retrospective of computer-based works created entirely by inner-city
youth from the Museum's Computer Clubhouse.

Through May 31, the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, MA is exhibiting MAKE
YOUR MOVE: INTERACTIVE COMPUTER ART -- with interactive installations by
Boston-area artists, including Karl Sim's GALAPAGOS; Christopher Dodge's
WHAT WILL REMAIN OF THESE?; and Jennifer Hall and Marc LoCascio
ACUPUNCTURE FOR A TEMPORAL FRUIT, in which viewers find themselves
complicit in the act of surgically dissecting a tomato. Integral to
these works are visitor participation in the creation of an aesthetic and
philosophical experience, (without computer screen menus or keyboards)
and shared content based on issues of creation, life, death and personal
responsibility.

At the Emerson Majestic Theatre in Boston, May 6-9, Dance Umbrella will
feature Montreal's Compagnie Marie Chouinard performing the Boston
premiere of the evening-length work L'AMANDE ET LE DIAMANT in which the
dancers' movements trigger and control the set, creating a unique world
for every performance.

Throughout the month of May, new media work by students from art schools
and universities around the Boston area -- including the Massachusetts
College of Art, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and University of
Massachusetts at Boston -- will be featured at First Expressions a
nonprofit gallery for student artwork, at 81 Arlington Street, Boston.

Artwork created specifically for the web is already on display at
HyperArtSpace, a virtual gallery which was developed and is being
curated by a working group that includes both artists and technical
people from around the Boston area. HyperArtSpace features THE SAINT LUCY
CHRONICLES by Claude and Lucy, Harold Cohen's AARON: ROBOTIC PAINTER;
EPHEMERA by Auriea Harvey; THE ROAR OF DESTINY EMANATED FROM THE
REFRIGERATOR, by Judy Malloy; Joseph Squier's THE PLACE; Troika Ranch;
TURBULENCE by Marek Walczak; and much more.

The Festival is also launching APropo, a web based Artist Proposal
Database where digital artists can post information about themselves and
their projects and find possible collaborators.

The Boston CyberArts Festival is directed by George Fifield.
