Dear List,

I want to be the first to say that I appreciate the work that Scott S. has
done to maintain this list for the last several years. We have all
benefitted from it.

But I must say that I think that the notion of this list becoming moderated
is not a decision that should be made unilaterally, but one that we should
all discuss and then make a decision about as a group.

That being said, I think that we can all agree that Scott's points 1-3
(Accidental Postings, Accidental Personal Replies, and Spam) should all be
filtered out. However, it is point 4 that I would want to discuss. I am
troubled by one person deciding what is and is not appropriate for the
list, even though I certainly respect Scott's ability to do this with care.
Even though we sometimes stray off the specific topic of dance and
technology, I think all discussion spurred here are useful, especially ones
that are passionately expressed. For me, if something doesn't seem useful,
I move on after the first few lines. No big deal.

I think that Jeff Miller's post expresses things very well. To paraphrase
in my own way, we are artists, and artists (especially dancers and
choreographers) don't generally think in logical, linear terms. We think
rhizomatically, lines of thought expanding in all directions. I would hate
for us to limit that modus operandi on the dance and technology list.

I hope that we will hear from everyone on this list regarding this
important choice.

Best Wishes,
Mark Coniglio
