This image was created using digital photos shot with an Olympus C-3000. I took some pictures of a banana tree, various rain forest plants and this turtle that I caught while wandering through Quail Botanical Gardens in Encinitas, California. I went there to see the Corpse Flower on display, but it had withered up and stopped stinking by the time I got there. This amphibian guardian was not happy to pose for the spread and kept wriggling back and forth in my hand. I used the lasso tool to crop him out of the photo and combined him as a separate layer on top of the vegetation images. After flattening the image, the "cutout filter" (using Photoshop) was applied and the shaded areas were created using the lasso tool and the "burn filter." The color was manipulated using the "hue" and "saturation" filters.
