perfusion

the trees were sparkling in the distance

and what she gave to me,
what she gave to me,
was her life;

more than example
she perfused me with her qualities,
her aura, the essence of her vitalness; she transformed;
more than illustration, than touch:
perfusion

the trees were dancing
all around us
the slate and ivory birds circled
beating their wings
their hearts
small and fierce with joy

she never gave gifts
she declared
that clutter of demonic lives

the lizards came from the sea
to be near her

I waited for the night
anticipating
the stars as they
discerned that she was there
