Dr. Haggerty
possessed a round face and thin dark hair. This
would not have signified if she had been
a man. Nor would her soft knob
of a nose. No 1 would have suggested such would
interfere with the skill of her hands and the power
of her brain if she had been a
man.
But behind Haggerty
the failing wings beat. I could
see them in the meadow.
I did not want
Elaine to speak. Stop her! I
wished to call out, to Violet, to Esme(e), to Rose,
for they should have stopped
her. They should have seen it. They
could not have missed it.
Why did they
ignore it?
