Creek with Predella

oil on board, 40" x 40"

After studying 13th century Italian Renaissance painting, I became interested in the use of small paintings on a predella added to the bottom of the main painting.  The small figures or scenes painted on the predella formed part of the altarpiece, provided a visual commentary on the major images above and at the same time raised the main panels.  These paintings also expanded the event of the central painting by showing the passage of time to the future or into the past.  My present work incorporates this narrative method using predellas.

This is Bear Creek where we take long walks.
