Sweetheart Abbey.
The North Aisle.
In the mid-1500's, at the time of the Reformation, Sweetheart Abbey was saved from demolition by the Maxwell family, whose seat was at Caerlaverock.
In 1560 an order was made to the sixth lord to destroy the buildings. He refused, stating that he was attached to the place "quhair he was maist part brocht up in his youth".
