Welcome to Roland's Gallery

Clarity 1 and Clarity 2

"genuine and consequential," Robert F. Duffy, St. Louis Post-Dispatch

About the Artist

Roland began painting in 1979 in high school. Along the way, he's engaged students, teachers, peers and the public with his unique imagery and style. Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Roland earned a B.F.A. at the College at Oswego, New York and has studied at Pratt Institute, the Empire State College, and Skowhegan, Maine

The artist uses acryllic and ink as the medium to mix the ingredients of pop culture and the African-American experience, and cooks up a unique blend on canvass. In fact, Duffy says of Clarity 1 and Clarity 2, "the strange Pepto-Bismol pink and '50's bathroom blue palette is so fresh that is slaps you in the face." You won't need antacid after viewing Roland's work, but you may think you left your 3-D glasses on! -J.B.
