New York’s Fallen
The following are portraits of soldiers from New York
who have died in Iraq since March 2003.
Soldiers are presented in chronological order of their deaths.
These are charcoal drawings drawn on digital prints.

Artist's Statement:

As an American I deeply regret that our country started this war in Iraq.
As a mother I feel great empathy for the families of the Americans
and Iraqis who have died or who have been injured in this war.
The process of drawing the portraits, for me,
is a way to pray that each one I do will be the last.
