Dance for the camera has a history that is virtually as old as cinema
itself beginning with Thomas Edison in the1890's. Eadward Muybridge
foreshadowed dance's relationship to cinema in his motion experiments as
early as the 1870's. I am currently writing a book titled' "Dancing for
the Camera: Inscribing the Ephemeral Body", (which should be finished
sometime next year) about this subject.
