Re:

" ... but this event and
its attendant hype (or perhaps _particularly_ its attendant hype) is more
likely to hurt serious work with dance and technology than promote it. It
was a nice modern dance concert ...."

so where is the serious work with dance and technology? ... and what is
serious work, exactly?

i didn't see the concert 'cuz Sarah mentioned on her website that a could
see a it at any later date .... since i'm very busy this week i didn't see
much differnce between watching a real video recording and real video live
... does technology hurt or help?

it's interesting when a music professor uses terms like "no addressing of
non-linearity ... " - i can't help but wonder if he understands what it
means or this is just 'artspeak' interpretation of formally well defined
mathematical terms.

colloquially, usually 'non-linear' is meant to mean non-sequential which
has nothing to do with its mathematical meaning.

i'm glad you wrote what you did - which came off as very harsh - and i
didn't see the concert, but i still think what sarah did for dance and
technolgy was positive - as it is for most in this listserv. mainly because
people must try to succed

again i didn't see the concert, i hope for most it 'succeded' ...

i went to an art show at the Armand Hammer here at UCLA, called 'scene of
the crime' - it was total crap: broken pieces of glass as 'art' - does this
hurt 'serious art'? ... no .... 'cuz serious art stands on its own merits
...

so i must take exception to
"(or perhaps _particularly_ its attendant hype) is more
likely to hurt serious work with dance and technology than promote it."

'cuz a truely 'serious' piece - will sooner or later - stand on its own merits

its not the presence of "failed to be serious" work that hurts dance and
technology it is its absence

so's i have a question to you dance techer's ... what is serious work? ....
where is it? ... why do we need it?

saludos,

nik
