Satty: An illustrated lecture by Walter Medeiros
Max Ernst on Acid: Wilfried Satty, trained as a mechanical engineer in
Germany, found his true calling as a psychedelic collagist in San Francisco
in the 1960's. Satty, who died in 1982, was famous for the legendary
parties he threw at his North Beach apartment, and for his illustration of
classics of hallucinatory literature, including Ludlow's The Hasheesh Eater
and works of Edgar Allen Poe. Walter Medeiros, director of the Archive of
Counterculture Art, will discuss the life and times of this unique and
fascinating artist, and will also talk about his own work with the Archive.

1-day Unintimidating Art Intensive
This one-day (6 hour) art intensive teaches a lot of art skills in a
warm, accessible, non judgemental way. It is designed to empower
beginning artists (finding your art) as well as to increase the
technical abilities & enjoyment level of those already making art.
The emphasis is on creating wonderful, personally meaningful art,
while learning easy, effective and exciting techniques. We learn from
each other - enjoying the process as much as the finished product.
Some of areas covered are: drawing from interior & exterior sources. Using
contrast for drama in art. Using source material from your life. Having fun
drawing with line, shading, & repetitive pattern. Playing with color, shapes
& cut paper. Painting with acrylics.
Cost: (including a delicious lunch) is sliding scale $75 -$150.
Due to the small size of the class a $45 deposit is required to secure a
place.
Afterward, students who wish to continue are welcome to join the more
advanced ongoing class.
