censorship

Periodically I look through the arts newsgroups, and something about them
just struck me, prob;ly because of the post yesterday...

Not too long ago non-sex newsgroups weren't getting spammed with ads for
sex sites, but now they are -- which I expect is a result of the censorship
software coming into general use. because it "filters" these posts out, the
spammers no longer worry about confining their ads to appropriate newsgroups.
Somehow I suspect that this is something else that the pro-software people
hadn't thought of. By getting their way, the over-all situation actually
gets worse (more non-topical posts eating bandwidth) rather than better,
since this discourages the self-controlling aspects that were in place
before...
