This wonderful piece is a family favorite and a very personal one to the curator. The work features Mr. Tar's wife, Olga, as she feeds their youngest son, Julius. This painting hung in the main dining room and as a youngster Julius would stare at it often, not knowing what was depicted or exactly who the baby was. Only much later did he learn the special significance of this work and that it was "he" who his mother was cradling in her "Motherhood".
The exact date that this piece was completed is not known, but it was sometime around 1959. The work consists of oil paint on canvas.
