This summer at Stanford, 10 master carvers from Papua New Guinea are working in-residence to create a permanent outdoor sculpture garden of New Guinea art. The artists are working on-location at Stanford carving large relief carved poles, garamut slit gongs, ancestral figures, and a variety of works in stone.
Visions of the Present is a show of the New Guinea Sculpture Garden which was put together by the folks at Stanford University. It is also a wonderful site to find out more about this project.
