Bear Creek in the Ozarks was an important part of my life as I grew up and still is. We swam in its cold spring fed water, carried buckets of water for the garden and searched for fossils in the gravel. I moved to New York City, then to California, but return every year to visit with family and spend time at the creek. Reflecting on the previous paintings and their autobiographical elements, I planned Self Portrait as a Missouri Creek Bed. The figure of the artist is the bed of the creek.
