How big of a problem are illicit drugs?
And, does that problem come close to the problems created by Prohibition?
NO!
- Before Drug Prohibition, narcotics were a minor problem compared
to other substances abused at that time. The same is true today.
- There is simply no evidence that Drug Prohibition works. Addiction
rates were little different from today and quite probably not as high.
- But, we certainly did not have the CRIME PROBLEM associated with
our present DRUG LAWS.
- The substances of abuse today that kill and disable large numbers
of people are not today's illicit drugs -- and never have been -- even
when legally available and cheap!
