If you are concerned about the condition of your video or audio tapes:

Media Alliance announces the publication of Magnetic Media Preservation
Sourcebook. The Sourcebook is a directory of resources for the
preservation of audio and video materials, and was produced through a
Discretionary Grant from the New York State Program for the Conservation
and Preservation of Library Research Materials, with assistance from
WNET/Thirteen.

The directory contains 51 entries from vendors, consultants,
organizations, funders, government entities and working groups,
containing contact information and descriptions of major services,
activities and programs. Vendors and consultants offer such services as
collection management, re-mastering, or disaster recovery.

An "Internet Resources" section provides pointers to listservs and World
Wide Web sites concerned with preservation, and a "Bibliographic
Resources" section lists print and electronic sources for further
reading. Other section provide contacts for educational programs,
equipment/supplies vendors, and groups undertaking preservation
projects.

The Magnetic Media Preservation Sourcebook is available free of charge
to non-profit organizations, libraries, archives and museums throughout
New York State. Individual copies may be obtained from Media Alliance,
c/o WNET, 356 W. 58th Street, New York, NY, 10019, 212-560-2919, or the
NYS Program for the Conservation and Preservation of Library Research
Materials, 10-C-47 Cultural Education Center, Albany, NY, 12054,
518-474-6971.

For all others, the Sourcebook may be obtained by sending $10 in check
or money order (for shipping and handling) to Media Alliance, c/o WNET,
